27. The Classic Book Tag

Monday, 7 September 2015

Firstly, thank you to Karina for tagging me in the Classic Book tag!
Let's do this!

1. A hyped classic that you really didn’t enjoy:
I'm really sorry to say this, but The Lord of the Rings series - I just couldn't get into it, or the writing. It was such a mammoth effort I had to give up in the end. I much  more prefer the film series (that is the first time you'll ever see me say that!).

2. Favourite time period to read about:
Medieval.
Austen era.
Bronte era.

3. Favourite Fairytale:
Always has been, and always will be Sleeping Beauty or The Swan Princess

4. What classic are you embarrassed to admit you haven’t read:
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett *hangs head in shame* I adore the film though!

5. Top five classics you want to read next:
Far From The Maddening Crowd by Thomas Hardy
Little Women by Louise May Alcott (reread)
A Room With A View by E. M. Forester
Middlemarch by George Eliot (reread)
The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde (reread)

6. Favourite modern book/series based on a classic:
I can't really say I've come across any. I tend to avoid modern re-tellings or anything that is based on a classic, although at a push I'd say Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding.

7. Favourite movie adaptation/tv series based on a classic:
I have to agree with Karina! For me it is the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice. Perfectly cast. Perfectly portrayed. Always a favourite, although the BBC Middlemarch is a close contender for me also,

8. Worst classic to screen adaptation:
Dorian Grey. It breaks my heart for all the wrong reasons. Namely for butchering one of my favourites. You really let me down with this one Colin Firth!

9. Favourite editions you’d like to collect more classics from:

All of the Barnes and Noble leather bound classic editions. I'd also love to collect a first edition of anything Austen or Bronte but I'll never be able to afford it!

10. An under-hyped classic you’d recommend to everyone:
Middlemarch by George Eliot
Animal Farm by George Orwell
An Inspector Calls by J. B. Priestley
What are your favourite classics? Leave me a comment below and let me know!
